About Blu-Ray Discs
Blu-Ray, also know as BD (blu-ray disc) is the most advanced in disc technology. It is the next generation in optical disc format because of it's high definition and disc space storage.
The market is beginning to see more and more Blu-Ray discs, and will be seeing less HD DVD's and CD's. Blu-Ray discs are now outselling HD DVD's and many major companies will no longer be producing and selling them. Blu-Ray discs are here to stay. Most of the new movies will be released in Blu-Ray format. Blu-Ray discs are better than DVD's because they read blue-violet shorter wavelengths, which are shorter than dvd's and cd's which read red and infrared longer wavelengths. Because of the shorter blue-violet wavelength, substantially more data can be stored than the DVD's.

Sony Playstation 3 has been using the Blu-Ray technology, and many say that they have been a catalyst for the new technology because of it's superior performance and capabilities.
Blu-Ray discs look like DVD's and cd's, but they will run on Blu-Ray disc drive players. Most of the Blu-Ray disc players are backward-compatible, meaning that they will still play DVD's. We are also seeing Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray re-writable drives in computers.
